Overview
A 72 m² apartment in a residential complex, commissioned between June and November 2024. The KNX scope is climate and blinds: five Daikin air conditioners on a two-pipe system, heating, room-by-room humidification and eight blind drives. All equipment comes from one manufacturer — Zennio, 13 devices on a single line. Each of the five climate zones has one Z35 touch panel on the wall; the air conditioner modes and the heating are run by a Wiren Board controller.
Challenge
The air conditioners here run on a two-pipe system, which cannot heat some rooms while cooling others. One unit is the lead, and its mode limits the rest: while the lead cools, the others may cool, ventilate or dry; while it heats, only heat or ventilate; in fan mode, only ventilate; in dry mode, cool, ventilate or dry.
Five rooms rarely want the same thing. One can call for cooling while the next is already below its setpoint — and at that moment the second room's air conditioner physically cannot heat it. Pass the lead's mode straight through and that unit starts cooling a room that is already too cold.
Every room also needs heating, humidification and blinds. A separate thermostat, humidistat and air conditioner remote in each of five rooms means three or four interfaces on every wall, none of which knows what the others are doing.
Solution
The modes are coordinated by a Wiren Board controller. In automatic mode the lead picks heating or cooling from the temperature in its own room, and every other unit chooses within what it is allowed: while the lead cools, a unit cools only if its own room needs cooling and ventilates otherwise; while the lead heats, it heats or ventilates by the same rule. A dry request on a secondary unit while the lead is heating becomes ventilation.
The heat the two-pipe system cannot deliver comes from the heating. The heating valve in each room works independently of the air conditioner modes: it opens when the room falls 1 °C below the setpoint. A room whose air conditioner cannot heat right now still gets warm.
Fan speed follows the deviation, not a button: more than 3 °C from the setpoint means full speed, between 1 and 3 °C an intermediate speed, within a degree the quiet setting. An air conditioner is loud only while it is actually catching up.
The Z35 panel is both the interface and the sensor: its built-in sensors report the room temperature and humidity, so the project contains not a single separate sensor. The setpoint goes from the panel straight to the KLIC-DD v3 gateway of that room's air conditioner, and the gateway's fault flag is shown as an indicator on the same panel.
Humidification closes directly on the bus. The panel's second thermostat takes humidity rather than temperature as its input, from the same built-in sensor: when humidity falls below the setpoint, its two-point output closes a relay on the MAXinBOX 24 and that room's humidifier starts. The controller plays no part in this loop.
The same MAXinBOX 24 carries eight blind drives — 16 outputs for the blinds and 5 for the humidifiers, 21 of 24 in use. Travel time is set per drive, from 64 to 123 seconds, so a position command in per cent means the same on every window. The panel in zone 1.11 runs four drives individually and as two pairs.

Result
Five air conditioners on a system that cannot heat and cool at once behave like five independent zones: each picks the best of what it is allowed, and the heating covers the warmth that is missing.
The mode logic is published as a separate article, with the module under MIT — in a revised version that adds a pause between heat/cool changeovers.
The whole installation is 13 devices from one manufacturer, with one panel per zone on the wall. Humidification and blinds do not depend on the controller. Three outputs on the MAXinBOX 24 and three of eight HeatingBOX channels are left in reserve.
The address export is published below — 152 addresses, searchable and downloadable as CSV. Unlike the 42 and 67 m² apartments, the names here are zone and window codes (CZ1.2, BL-10.1), not room names. Four address names and three group names were in Russian and have been translated; everything else is as it stands in ETS.
What remains unresolved
Logic does not remove the limit of a two-pipe system. While the lead cools, a secondary unit cannot heat, and a cool room is warmed only by the heating — provided the heating circuit is running at that moment.
Air conditioner modes and heating depend on the controller. If the Wiren Board is unavailable, the air conditioners and valves stay where the last command left them; setpoints, humidification and blinds keep working because they close on the bus.
Each zone is measured at one point — the sensor in the panel. That saves devices, but the loop sees the temperature where the panel hangs, not across the room; in the 350 m² house with its large glazing that is exactly why each zone has several sensors.
The panel shows only that an air conditioner has a fault. The gateway puts the error code on the bus, but it is not on the screen and has to be read separately.
Humidity is controlled in one direction only. The humidifier follows its setpoint; drying is an air conditioner mode chosen by hand, with no link to the humidity sensor.

A humidifier needs a humidistat, but a dedicated KNX humidistat is optional. A spare thermostat in a wall panel does the same job: it takes humidity instead of temperature and switches the humidifier through a relay. Step by step in ETS, on a Zennio Z35 v2 and a MAXinBOX 24 v2.
